Khaled Bouchoucha
Khaled Bouchoucha, a data processing engineer and agripreneur, is one of the new breed of young entrepreneurs believing that combining agriculture with a professional business approach will lead to huge economic, social and environmental development.
After graduation, he worked as an aircraft maintenance engineer for two years but his passion for entrepreneurship took him away to build his own destiny. After three years of research and fundraising, Khaled founded IRIS Technologies in February 2016, the first startup in Africa and the MENA region designing high-tech solutions for bees and beekeeping industries.
Institution
According to the African Development Bank, the world must be able to feed around 19 billion people by 2050, so we must increase agricultural productivity by 70%. We clearly need bees to feed the world. We need bees to pollinate plants and keep our food safe.
In a world of globalisation, it becomes mandatory to involve technologies and innovation in agribusiness projects. We need technologies to produce more. We believe that happy bees are much more productive. We are working hard to improve the beekeeping value chain, starting from the beehive to the customer. We are developing smart technologies that allow us to understand deeply and to diagnose bee performance in a scientific, efficient way, and to provide the necessary data, predictions and warnings to help our customers reach a better beekeeping level and to have a positive impact on bees and beekeepers.
Beekeeping around the world is becoming a huge market, one not historically characterised by innovation. This is the era of digital technology and agricultural big data. IRIS Technologies is the first company of its kind in the MENA region and Africa, using technology and biology to allow us to be masters of the value chain, not only producing more but adding higher value.
