Ehssan Dariani
In 1986, during the Iran-Iraq War, Ehssan Dariani came to Germany as a child refugee. His passion for technology was evident in his early endeavours: in 1995 he won the renowned Jugend Forscht science contest for adolescents. Despite successes early in life – he studied at the elite University of St. Gallen – at age 25 he found himself soaking wet after being caught in a downpour and out of money in an Internet café.
After handing over his last penny to pay for an hour of Internet, he used it to register StudiVZ, the domain that would go on to make him his millions. In 2007, he sold his share to publisher Holtzbrink for an estimated 85 million euros. Since then, he has been co-founder, founding investor and board member of a number of startups, including Brands-4-Friends, Mister Spex and Käuferportal.
His credo reflects his turbulent yet successful career: “Everyone has his own story to tell. Maybe the most important thing is to always be aware of the fact that nothing can hold you back if you really want to realise your ideas.”
