Dury De Bagh was born in Baghdad. At the age of 14, he escaped the mandatory and cruel military service which awaited him, unwilling to face the same fate as his five older brothers. With a forged passport, he fled to Turkey, Greece and Syria. Here, he bought a guitar, that since then has been the main source of his income. He was used to singing in front of big crowds, as he had already called for prayers as a Muezzin at the early age of ten. Until now, the Arabic “Maqam melodies” play an important role in his music, which he describes as “Gypsy-Rumba-Oriental”. The numerous people he met during his journey to Europe further influenced his style. Dury De Bagh musically accompanied the zenithTalk with his band-colleagues Anne Dau, Christiano de Varas and Rofier de Nijs.
